IMI Level 1 Qualification in Automotive Maintenance

The Automotive Maintenance Course will teach you all aspects of motor vehicle repair and maintenance.

You will begin with the basic Health and Safety practices associated with workshop tools and equipment. Following this, you will be introduced to the skills required to undertake vehicle repairs, which are tailored towards potential career paths within this industry.

You will learn the principles of motor vehicle engine construction, including cooling and lubrication systems, transmission systems (gearbox), and the fundamentals of vehicle electrical and electronic systems (lights, charging, starting systems).

You will learn how to carry out routine inspections of braking systems, wheel and tyre checks and also gain an understanding of the different types of transport vehicles and how they are constructed.

The course covers future technologies such as low carbon and electric vehicles. You will also learn washing and cleaning skills, and how to prepare a motor vehicle for resale.

Jason – Mechanics

Jason is the St-Eds Tutor for Automotive Maintenance. He started off as an apprentice with Armstrong & Son whilst learning the art of refinishing and spray painting. He continued this trade with a passion for motorcycles and cars and became a Private Hire Driver working with several companies and contracts. Jason is a professional ex-motorcycle instructor of eight years, with experience in the legal and heavy automotive industries. One of his main passions is riding motorcycles and he is also a keen photographer.

Mikey Woolston 2022-1

Mikey- Mechanics

Mikey is also a Tutor on the Automotive Maintenance course.  He has previously worked as a Mechanics tutor for an independent training provider, and for an FE College. He has been in the motor vehicle industry for more than 25 years, and describes himself as a self-starter, who has excellent communication skills and a keen commitment of working with people from diverse backgrounds.
