Conference Update – Mental Health with Central Norfolk Youth Service

    By St Eds,

    22nd December 2017
This week St-Eds is over the moon to introduce the second workshop that will be at our conference in February, Mental Health with Central Norfolk Youth Service. In 2015, on average 9.3% of young people were affected by mental health issues in Norfolk (Gummerson, 2015) and whilst this is significantly lower than the national average at 19% (Office for National Statistics, 2017), we feel extremely passionate about an issue that affects many of our students so closely.

The Central Norfolk Youth Service is a multi-disciplinary, recovery focused team for young people aged between 14 and 25 in Norfolk. Having a recovery focused ethos, the service is non-stigmatising and youth orientated, with a heavy emphasis of a needs-led service offering initial assessment, case management, group work, psychological therapies, family therapy and occupational therapy.

The team offers a multi-faceted approach to successful engagement with young people with the use of peer support workers, qualified assistant practitioners, mental health nurses, social workers and occupational therapists.

The team also has a dedicated approved mental health professional. Having an active youth council, the service has been designed by the young people it serves, their family members, carers, clinical staff and managers. Utilising a comprehensive problem solving and person-centred approach, including care planning and risk management, multi-agency working and signposting, a robust service is offered in supporting young people experiencing difficulties with their mental health wellbeing.

Martha Russell and her team will be leading the workshop covering the work they do and how this benefits the current situation of young people in Norfolk experiencing mental health issues.

We will be releasing information every week for each workshop, so keep an eye out for our posts. If you haven’t already, then you can buy your tickets here.
